We usually talk about our
attachment to other people or our loved ones; but have you ever wondered how
much you are attached to yourself? to your own thoughts?
Attachment to our loved ones can go either way, it can either bring you close to that person or too much attachment leading to obsession can take you away from that person. Similarly, attachment to oneself creates self-respect, at the same time, too much attachment to oneself can shut your doors to the outside world and you end up losing tons of great opportunities.
When you are too much attached to your own thoughts and ideas, you don’t want to hear what others may suggest and even if you do hear them you don’t feel like even thinking about it only because in your mind, in your world your ideas are the only ones that can work.
With self-attachment, you tend to judge people very easily and create some misconceptions about them in your mind which creates distance between you and them, not just them but your judgmental nature can create distance between you and the rest of the world including your loved ones. No one is perfect, not even you and that’s the fact.
God has made every man different, hence providing them with different qualities and the mental level. Connecting these differences together creates a whole new world. Only a President himself can never run the entire country, he needs advisors with different backgrounds, thoughts and ideas and with his open mind welcoming these different ideas he is able to create an innovative and brighter future of the country and its people.
When we let go the self-attachment and open our minds to different suggestions, we are opening the doors to new opportunities which may give our life a new shape. I myself am in the process of making few changes in my life, my behavior by applying some of the ideas suggested by one of my friend, who I will always be Thankful to. It feels great as now staying away from social networking which I was too addicted to gives me more time to think about myself, gives me time for more activities like I now once again started writing my blogs like this one ;) and I am also planning to take Zumba lessons which I have been wanted to do since long time. Also, I finally started reading and do some meditation as he suggested which actually gives me some peace of mind and it helps me have some patience in life, which I was totally lacking. I was enjoying being on Facebook and Watsapp 24/7, chatting with friends and cousins, posting jokes and quotes all the time; but when I heard his point of view on the amount of time spent on social networking sites made me realize how addicted I was and what I was missing in life. At the same time, I also realized how impatient I had become and his suggestions are working perfectly only because I was open to hear and apply them in my life. I was able to make all these changes for good because I was open to hear, think and apply the ideas and suggestions by my friend with open mind.
Our mind is limited to our own thoughts which is why we connect with different people but that connection has no meaning unless we are open to hear and think about what others has to say and respect their opinions and suggestions.
"Let go of your attachment to being right, and suddenly your mind is more open. You're able to benefit from the unique viewpoints of others, without being crippled by your own judgment." -Ralph Marston
